In a heartwarming collaboration, young carers from Bristol and South Gloucestershire have teamed up with Bath Philharmonia and Ed Davey, leader of the Liberal Democrats, to record a festive fundraising song that aims to raise awareness and boost support for young carers.
The initiative brought together the voices of these remarkable young individuals, who balance their education and personal lives while providing essential care to family members. This unique project not only highlights their incredible resilience but also seeks to provide vital resources and support for young carers and the families they look after.
The recording session took place at the renowned Bath Philharmonia studio, where young carers from all over the country worked alongside professional musicians and conductors. Young carers were also joined on the recording by Ed Davey, a long-time advocate for young carers, and a carer himself. Together, they created a new festive classic.
Joss Tagg, Young Carers Service Manager at Carers Support Centre Bristol and South Gloucestershire expressed her enthusiasm for the project: “These young people are real heroes, and their hard work and dedication must be recognised. This festive song not only celebrates their spirit but also aims to raise crucial funds to support their needs.”
Bristol and South Gloucestershire young carer, Teya, commented, “I thought the day spent together was amazing, I loved getting to know everyone, and it brought such joy to be able to sing something we had created that was only a thought earlier this year.
The finished song was released with national media coverage in time for the holiday season, with proceeds going towards Bath Philharmonia’s community work, and Carers Trust which supports local charities like Carers Support Centre Bristol and South Gloucestershire provide essential services to young carers. The project aims to not only raise funds but also foster a greater understanding of the challenges young carers face and the importance of supporting them within our communities.
