Bristol Ageing Better Greater Fishponds Community Champions has recently been launched. The aim is to build up communities by supporting volunteers to create connections with groups and other local people.
We are delighted to be the lead provider around recruiting carers to become ‘considerate friends’, as part of this programme. Considerate friends will visit local services and facilities in the Greater Fishponds area and recommend how they can be more accessible to older carers. The programme will help reduce social isolation through increasing social and cultural activities and opportunities for engagement for older carers. Carers in this voluntary role will also develop new skills through the training and support that they receive.
We will also support a carer to participate in the Greater Fishponds Community Champion steering group which is lead by The Care Forum. This is a great opportunity for any carer wanting experience of steering a project.
