If you are a carer of somebody with a learning disability, you can take a survey to support research into the quality and cost of supported living and residential care. It should take around 30 minutes of your time.
The National Development Team for Inclusion (NDTi) is researching housing services (supported living and residential care) for people with learning disabilities. They have done focus groups with people with learning disabilities and their carers, to find out what is important to them.
Carers told them about the ways they support a relative with a learning disability in different housing settings and shared their concerns about what would happen – and does happen to people –without their help. NDTi understand the important role of carers. You can read about their key findings here.
To explore this further NDTi have created a questionnaire, based on what family carers have told them. Sharing your views and experiences will help them understand the contribution of carers in different housing settings. The findings of this survey will help NDTi measure the contribution of carers, in terms of time and money spent supporting the cared for person. You can find out more about NDTi’s research here.
If you care for someone with a learning disability and want to make your views heard, please take their survey. If you would prefer to fill out a paper survey or give your answers via telephone – or if you have any questions – please contact Geraldine Cooney on 01225 789135.
