The government requires that all Health and Wellbeing Boards produce an assessment of pharmaceutical services in its area at least every three years; the last pharmaceutical needs assessment for Bristol and South Glos took place in 2014.
Both Bristol City Council and South Gloucestershire Council have drafted updated Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment documents and would like to hear carers’ views on pharmaceutical services in your area.
What are pharmaceutical services?
Pharmaceutical services are many of the services currently provided under the NHS by community pharmacies, and include:
- The dispensing of medicines and appliances on prescription
- The sale of medicines to the public
- Providing advice to the public on medicines or managing illness
- Receiving waste medicines for safe destruction
Some pharmaceutical services may be provided by dispensing GP practices, or dispensing appliance contractors.
This consultation is open between until Monday 27th, November 2017.
