Last week, our Young Carers in Schools lead Vicki had the pleasure of supporting author Rab Ferguson on a mini-book tour across five South Gloucestershire primary schools. Together, they shared his fantastic series The Late Crew, an alien adventure that shines a light on young carers.
The tour included interactive assemblies at St. Michael’s CofE Primary, Barley Close Community Primary, Christ Church CofE Juniors, and Beacon Rise Primary. With plenty of laughs, creativity, and inspiration, pupils helped Rab invent imaginative aliens and even heard him craft a unique story just for their school.
Highlights:
- We funded free copies of The Late Crew books for each school’s library.
- Rab held book signings, and two schools hosted book sales, supported by East Bristol Books.
- We were thrilled when a previously unidentified young carer was connected to their school’s group after a chat in a queue.
- Schools praised the assemblies as “fantastic experiences” for their young carers and pupils alike.
We’d also like to thank Beacon Rise’s Young Carers group for the warm welcome and to the amazing staff who made it all possible: Alison King, Jyoti Aslam, and, of course, Rab Ferguson for inspiring the next generation of storytellers.
We’re so proud to support projects that celebrate young carers and spark creativity in children.
