Carers Week is an annual campaign to raise awareness of caring, highlight the challenges carers face and recognise the contribution they make to families and communities throughout the UK.
The aim of this year’s Carers Week campaign is to support carers to become healthy and connected.
Carers Week Open Meeting
Come and join us to celebrate Carers Week. Take part in free workshops, get a head and shoulder massage, view information stands and art work from local support organisations and carers, and meet members of staff at Carers Support Centre.
We are also excited to be launching a number of short films in different community languages to encourage minority ethnic carers to seek support. These have been produced in partnership with Dhek Bhal and Bristol & Avon Chinese Women’s Group.
The open meeting will take place at The Vassall Centre in Fishponds on Thursday 14th June, 10am-1pm. The event is free with buffet lunch included, but it is essential to book.
Information stalls
There will be Carers Support Centre information stalls in Bristol’s main hospitals.
Southmead Hospital: Staffed information stall in the main atrium, Monday and Tuesday, 11am-3.30pm.
There will also be staffed information stalls at Sainsbury’s Emerson’s Green on Monday 11th June and Sainsbury’s Winterstoke Road on Tuesday 12th June. These will be present 10am-4pm.
Additionally at Southmead Hospital, we are running two further events on Thursday and Friday to raise awareness among hospital staff. On Thursday Tommy Whitelaw will give a talk about his experience as a carer and on Friday a ‘Fishbowl’ session will reflect on the experiences of carers. These events are for North Bristol Trust staff only.
